Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Trainee Trader to work in a truly global environment assisting senior traders with key commercial decisions, including sourcing coffee from producing countries, reporting to General Manager, Cofi Com Australia. The role provides long term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in the fast-paced soft commodities environment.

This role will be working for Volcafe’s company in Huntingwood, Australia.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist senior traders with key commercial decisions, including sourcing coffee from producing countries.
  • Learn to manage and grow a portfolio of customers.
  • Develop and maintain commercial relationships worldwide to support market presence.
  • Support in negotiating contracts, including pricing, quality, delivery, and specifications.
  • Contribute to the development of commercial strategies aimed at growing the customer base.
  • Ensure timely execution of contracts and deliveries under the guidance of senior traders.
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to coordinate shipments and deliveries.
  • Travel locally and internationally to visit customers and coffee producers (as required)

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, agronomy, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in learning about coffee trading and the global coffee supply chain.
  • Some knowledge or experience in agriculture, commodities, or international trade would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills and an eagerness to develop commercial acumen.
  • Strong proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional languages (e.g., Portuguese, Spanish, or French) would be an advantage but are not essential.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally as required for business needs.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team.
  • Interest in coffee quality assurance, including evaluating and learning how to cup coffee samples.
