We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Regional Financial Controller for Europe to work in a truly global environment to coordinate and financially manage our many subsidiaries throughout this region, including providing high quality analysis, reporting, review, decision support and financial leadership. The role reports to the Global CFO for coffee and the successful individual will develop a solid understanding of our business, its global operations and the impact that these operations have on financial reporting, cash funding and risk.

This role could be hybrid-based from the Madrid (Spain), Genoa (Italy), or Amsterdam offices. With monthly European and occasional international travel required.

Our Volcafe Way farmer support programme engages with thousands of coffee farmers and provides a holistic response to the challenges they face.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate, review and drive the financial performance and results of each operation in the given region, including commercial insight and analysis.
  • Lead and advise on financial and commercial decisions and consult with the Regional Directors. Candidate must work in close partnership with the respective Head of Supply Chain.
  • Develop a consistent and comprehensive set of standards and reports throughout the Region within the broader umbrella of improving financial and commercial support services to the business.
  • Liaise between the local subsidiaries, the region and the Head Office finance department.
  • Budgeting and medium-term planning skills are essential.
  • Prepare for and manage internal and external annual audits – maintain a strong internal control environment.
  • Maximize the benefits of systems, including ITAS, Microsoft AX, Hyperion and Masterisk (in-house developed risk management tool).
  • Understand the risk involved in any future transactions including accounting impacts.
  • Understand the divisional trade flows, their impact on cash management, resource usage, statutory reporting and tax planning/optimization.
  • Be able to answer and provide creative solutions to any business challenge that may be encountered in Coffee, Group Headquarters or from overseas subsidiary operations.
  • Proactively gain an understanding of new accounting standards and their potential impact on the business unit’s results.
  • Respond to ad-hoc reporting requests from the Regional Director, CFO and CEO.
  • Capital investment appraisals/monitoring, project management and treasury management and help with any Trade finance initiative or Country Bilateral funding.
  • Employee development, including mentoring, performance management and oversight of all in-country local subsidiary controllers in the respective region.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an international financial controlling environment with a strong understanding of IFRS standards
  • Commodity trading sector experience is ESSENTIAL.
  • A degree in finance, economics or business administration.  A professional accounting qualification or MBA highly desirable.
  • Proficient in risk management, financial modelling and analysis
  • Experience of hedge accounting and trade finance.
  • Able to apply knowledge and experience to provide robust commercial solutions.
  • Candidate must possess strong communication and negotiation skills, with a ‘hands on’ highly visible management style and be able to motivate and lead change.
  • Self-confident and self-motivated person able to prioritise and focus on the completion of key targets.
  • Fluent in English other European languages advantageous.
  • Systems and software savvy including management information systems, MS office advanced excel.
