Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Cairo team in an entry level position as a Commercial Assistant, reporting directly to the commercial manager. The role provides the job holder to learn the fundamentals of commodity trading through direct, on-the-job exposure to trading and commercial principles and techniques. You will be introduced to suppliers and service providers, customized tasks, and assignments to enhance your understanding of the business. You will learn at your own pace within established expectations. The first three months will include an orientation in different departments.
Business Overview
ED&F Man Liquid Products Division is the leading global supplier in molasses, molasses blends and related liquid products as well as dry products for (mainly) the animal feed industry. We are a pioneer as well as a trader in liquid agricultural by-and- co-products. We offer expertise in animal nutrition and feed dispense technology to farmers. We work closely with manufacturers, such as rum and yeast producers, to provide quality products from sustainable sources. Our capability includes sourcing, shipping, storage and distribution of molasses, molasses blends and other sugar co-products, as well as vegetable and fish oils.
We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.
Key Accountabilities
- Daily stock update and ensuring all data and information is promptly updated on the system and in spreadsheets.
- Manage and control trade data on company system.
- Assisting in trading operations by providing the necessary shipment documentation to operations and follow up on required documentation and invoices based on our agreements and contracts.
- Following bond issuing and readiness, ensuring they are submitted and received back from producers on time.
- Keep record of payments and LC/LG including follow up.
- Understand company risk measurements techniques, CPRS and learn to operate within established limits set by corporate.
- Collect market data.
- Analyse and understand market factors that lead to informed judgments.
- Create and review producer contracts based on our agreements with other parties.
- Attending tenders, interacting, and developing relationships with suppliers and service providers.
- Interact and follow up with other areas of the business (operations, accounting, treasury).
Skills and Experience
- 1-3 years of relevant commercial business experience.
- University degree preferred.
- Fluent written and oral interpersonal skills (Arabic & English).
- Must be very organised and able to work within tight deadlines with minimum supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively build strong working relationships.
- Team player with an eye for detail.
- Flexible and adaptable; Keen to take on new challenges and go the extra mile.
- High level of integrity, flexibility, ability to work under pressure and self-reflection are key attributes to perform in our company.
- Analytical, numerate and intellectually curious.
